Max Streibl, the premier of Bavaria who has been under fire for accepting free holidays from a businessman, announced his resignation yesterday, Reuter reports from Munich. His announcement paved the way for the state interior minister, Edmund Stoiber, to take over. Mr Streibl had delayed quitting until a power struggle between Mr Stoiber and the German Finance Minister Theo Waigel for his job had been settled.
