BRASILIA (AFP) - A congressional committee investigating corruption allegations against an associate of President Fernando Collor de Mello could initiate impeachment proceedings next month against the President.
Senator Maurice Correa, a committee member, said: 'If events continue along their current path, we could very well ask for impeachment.' The inquiry has found 'strong indications' that Mr Collor's former campaign manager and government officials engaged in corrupt practices, though nothing has implicated the President directly.
