SAN JUAN - Supporters of continued US commonwealth status for Puerto Rico prevailed at the polls yesterday over those who wanted statehood, AP reports.

'The people spoke and I will obey them,' Governor Pedro Rossello, who spearheaded the statehood campaign, said, acknowledging defeat.
