Rebels ousted

The Georgian Defence Ministry said its troops recaptured the crucial western town of Samtredia, driving out rebels supporting the former president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, after street fighting, Reuter reports from Kutaisi, Georgia. A ministry spokesman said the rebels had retreated from Samtredia, a crucial road and rail junction.
