Electors in Kyrgyzstan voted in a referendum called to endorse the mandate for reform of President Askar Akayev. Mr Akayev called the vote to seek backing, amid a social and economic crisis, for a radical reform programme he launched in July 1992. He was expected to win, AFP reports from Bishkek.
