Washington (Reuter) - The US Senate unanimously confirmed Janet Reno yesterday as the nation's first woman attorney general, completing President Bill Clinton's cabinet.
Mr Clinton congratulated Ms Reno at the White House after the vote. Ms Reno, a Florida state prosecutor for 15 years, said: 'I hope to do the women of American proud.'
The President had nominated Ms Reno after his first choice, Zoe Baird, withdrew amid a furore over hiring of illegal immigrants as household help. Kimba Wood, widely assumed to be Mr Clinton's second choice, withdrew for similar reasons.
