Rio killings

Twenty-four people were killed in a Rio shantytown where four policemen were shot dead in an ambush over the weekend, AP reports from Rio de Janeiro.

The massacre reportedly occurred early yesterday morning, and women and children were said to be among the victims. A police spokesman declined to comment on reports that the massacre was a retaliatory attack by police.
