A trial of strength between Pakistan's Islamic militants and the security forces of Benazir Bhutto, the Prime Minister, crippled Islamabad.

Police skirmished with stone-throwing supporters of the Jamaat-i-Islami partytrying to break a security cordon around the Pakistani capital. About 29 people were hurt. Islamabad - Reuter
