Russia used its UN Security Council veto for the first time since 1984 to kill a British-sponsored resolution to reform the financing of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (Unficyp), Reuter reports from New York. The vote on the draft, to apportion the costs of the 1,500-member force among all UN members instead of relying on voluntary contributions, was 14 for and only Russia against.
