The Saudi ambassador in London has described as baseless reports that 400 people were arrested for supporting the newly formed Committee for the Defence of Legitimate Rights, which has been banned by the Saudi authorities, writes Charles Richards.

A spokesman for the committee also denied knowledge of any such arrests and added that more than 400 letters of support had been received. Saudi dissidents report that security forces stormed the offices of the committee spokesman.
