Pakistan edged further into political turmoil yesterday as another important aide with ministerial rank deserted the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, the eighth to do so in two weeks, AFP reports from Islamabad. Roedad Khan, a close friend of President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, stepped down in protest at Mr Sharif's trial of strength with the President, whose powers he wants curbed.
