OSLO (AFP) - A freighter carrying 212 tonnes of explosives blew up on Norway's southern coast yesterday after running aground during the weekend, local police said.
The population of 120 people on the island of Stjernoey, west of Kristiansand where the ship hit the rocks 100 metres from the shore, were evacuated on Sunday. In the evening they were allowed to return to their homes, only to be awakened a few hours later by a huge explosion. There were no injuries.
