SIGNIFICANT SHORTS : Bosnian elections will probably go ahead
Bosnia's elections will probably go ahead as scheduled on 14 September, although conditions are far from ideal, the Swiss Foreign Minister - who has the final say on holding the vote - indicated yesterday. Flavio Cotti, chairman in office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the security and human-rights group charged with organising the elections, said he would announce his final decision next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Serb soldiers in eastern Croatia grudgingly surrendered their weapons and uniforms, completing the demilitarisation of Croatia's last Serb-held region. The process is considered a key step in the re-establishment of Croatian government rule over an area that Serb rebels had controlled for almost five years. AP - Vienna
