India's second-largest opposition party, the Janata Dal, has split for a third time since 1989, providing a boost to the Congress (I) government of the Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, AFP reports from Delhi. Fourteen of the 39 Janata Dal members of the lower house of parliament informed the Speaker, Shivraj Patil, on Tuesday of their decision to sit as 'a distinct political group' in the legislature.
