The US Defense Secretary, Les Aspin, decided to overrule his new Navy Secretary and retain Admiral Frank Kelso as the Navy's top officer, a senior Pentagon source said, AP reports from Washington.

The Navy Secretary John Dalton had recommended that Admiral Kelso, the Navy's top admiral, be fired over his handling of the Tailhook sexual harassment scandal. A Pentagon official said: 'Kelso stays.'
