OSLO - Norway said it would not propose its former foreign minister, Thorvald Stoltenberg, for the job of Nato secretary-general, but would support the candidature of the Belgian Foreign Minister, Willy Claes. 'There is no basis to formally launch him (Stoltenberg) as a candidate. We have concluded that Claes has more support than Stoltenberg,' a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. The former Danish foreign minister, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, yesterday confirmed that he was still in contention for the post, left vacant by the death of Manfred Worner. Reuter
