Strikes by metalworkers in eastern Germany spread after another round of pay talks with employers collapsed, AP reports from Dresden. IG Metall union officials said 38,000 workers in 70 east German steel and metal plants were called out yesterday, the fifth day of the first strike in eastern Germany for 60 years.
