Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang party approved proposed constitutional amendments to boost the powers of the president and limit the prime minister's authority, AFP reports from Taipei. The proposals recommend direct presidential elections and an end to the premier's authority to endorse presidential appointments if the nominees have parliament's consent.
