Jack Kevorkian, the retired pathologist who has assisted in 17 suicides, yesterday became the first person charged with violating Michigan's new suicide law for helping a man take his own life earlier this month, Reuter reports from Detroit.
The charge, which was widely expected, marks the third time Dr Kevorkian has been prosecuted for assisting a suicide since 1990.
