Switzerland yesterday denied that its business deals with Nazi Germany prolonged the Second World War.

In response to a critical US report this month, the Swiss government acknowledged some "questionable deals" with the Axis powers. But it rejected portrayal of neutral Switzerland as "bankers to the Nazis" and said there was no need to reopen a post-war treaty on the return of looted gold bought from Hitler's Germany.
