Tajik government forces helped by Russian troops drove Islamic rebels from a major stronghold in the south of the republic yesterday, Reuter reports from Moscow. A Tajik Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Russian 201st Armoured Division took part in a successful operation near Shuroabad on the border with Afghanistan.
