Talks on Rwandan ceasefire

KIGALI - Representatives of the Rwandan army and rebel forces held their first meeting to explore terms for a ceasefire, while fighting still raged for control of Kigali on Friday, Reuter reports.

Belgium said yesterday that it had sent 750, not 400, troops to Rwanda for the evacuation of its nationals and other foreigners. Army officials said they had kept silent about the extra troops because Rwanda had given permission to send in only 400 Belgian paratroops.
