Tapie setback

The French parliament yesterday lifted the parliamentary immunity of Bernard Tapie, the tycoon and left-wing politician, clearing the way for him to be indicted for tax evasion and embezzlement. Rightwing MPs and the Communists voted to lift his immunity, but the Socialists did not take part in the vote, calling the procedure a 'masquerade'.
