TEHRAN (AFP) - A magazine's cartoonist and director have been jailed for publishing a cartoon of the former Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, about to kick a football, the Salam daily newspaper said yesterday.
The cartoonist, named as Karimzadeh, on Farad, a small current-affairs magazine, was jailed for a year and fined 500,000 riyals (pounds 200). His boss, Nasser Arabha, was sentenced to six months in jail on Wednesday by a special court set up to judge violations of press laws. The magazine was closed.
