The IKEA Monkey is being evicted and needs your help

He could die if not found an appropriate new home

Darwin "The IKEA Monkey" and 19 other rescue monkeys' lives are in danger, with their home, Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary in Ontario, Canada, set to be shut down.

The sanctuary was set up as a permanent home for primates rescued from the exotic pet trade and biomedical experimentation, where they can live with dignity and 'be who they are as much as possible', but its planned closure would leave the monkeys homeless.

"Story Book Farm is being evicted from their current premises as of June 30th," the sanctuary said. "The current housing for 20 monkeys, including Darwin "The IKEA Monkey" and Pockets Warhol, the capuchin who creates collectible paintings, is being sold from underneath them. They need a financial miracle. Story Book Farm is out of options and out of money.

"It is the only sanctuary of its kind in Canada and if it ceases to operate, it is no exaggeration to say that the monkeys' lives will be in danger. They have nowhere to go."

A crowdfunding page has been set up on Tilt in the hope of raising $250,000, enough to keep the sanctuary open.

"Story Book Farm can be saved but they can't do it alone," the description reads.

Darwin, the sanctuary's most famous primate, was previously embroiled in a legal battle for custody of him between Story Book and his original owner.
