If you make it through to 2016 you will have survived such 2015 trends as 'The Dress', the rise of the Youtuber and the antics of actor Shia LaBeouf.

Like most years, there are news stories and memes that especially stick out in our minds. But which were the worst trending moments of 2015 that are likely to look ridiculous in 2016? Users of online forum Reddit have made a series of credible suggestions/

Kylie Jenner lips were a source of rage for some. Earlier in the year, the ‘Kylie Jenner challenge’ saw social media users attempting to get the fuller-lip look synonymous with the young Kardashian. This involved people sucking a cup or shot glass and using the vacuum to swell their lips.

Kylie Jenner admitted to having the non-surgical procedure this year

User jaqwithaq wrote: ”I'm kinda late to this, but the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge. Sooo dumb”, while fellow user AynRandPaulAtreides wrote: “Immediately thought of this as well. There were women in my office doing this. GROWN. ASS. LADIES.”

Box subscriptions were also under discussion. The monthly box subscription trend has risen in the previous year, with beauty, food and video game subscription boxes becoming available.

User Nobodyaskedu_Patrice wrote: “Box Subscriptions. You pay a monthly fee and they send you a box of random stuffs based off of a particular interest. Extremely overpriced and usually useless. Seems like there are dozens of them out there now. Just go buy your own stuff!”

Black_Gotenks had an issue with so-called “hoverboards”, writing: “They most definitely do not hover”

There have now been at least several instances of hoverboards catching fire or exploding in the UK and US

Although minions first featured in the Despicable Me films in 2010, ‘minion memes’ made their mark on Facebook in the form of inspirational messages.

Shellshocke wrote: “Putting stupid relatable phrases are bad enough with people sharing them to show how emotional or depressed they are and how their life has been so difficult. But then you stick a minion next to it.”

CFCHudson called out YouTuber Sam Pepper for his ‘fake pranks’ over the year, writing: “'Pranks'. Walking up to people and being openly offensive, racist or sexist is in no way validated by saying.. "woah, calm down man, it was just a prank." Stop being a dick [Sam Pepper].”
