Two people who lived for two years inside Biosphere 2, an experiment to create a prototype 'Martian' colony, were arrested on charges of breaking into the domed complex and vandalising it, Reuter reports from Tucson, Arizona. Abigail Alling, 34, and Mark van Thillo, are accused of second-degree burglary, damaging property and trespass.

Since Monday's break-in, Ms Alling had made calls to reporters admitting that she had ordered Mr van Thillo to open the doors of the sealed metal-and- glass complex in an effort to sabotage the controversial dollars 150m ( pounds 100m) experiment.
