LOS ANGELES (Reuter) - Geologists have announced the discovery of two new faults beneath the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood that are believed to be capable of generating large earthquakes. The finding may significantly raise the threat to millions of people living in the densely-populated Los Angeles area.
'Even moderate earthquakes on these faults could be very damaging because they are so close to major population centres,' said James Dolan, a geologist from the California Institute of Technology and one of the scientists who made the discovery.
