US helicopter gunships fired on a Somali crowd, killing at least two, after a sniper shot dead a Pakistani soldier, AP reports from Mogadishu.

Pakistani troops had been searching for weapons in a building when they came under sniper fire, said Major David Stockwell, spokesman for the UN force in Somalia. One was killed and two were seriously wounded. US troops called to provide air cover fired machine-guns into an armed crowd, killing two Somalis.
