Kiev - Hundreds of Ukrainians have died in fires so far this year, a fire-fighting official said, blaming many of the deaths on the country's energy crisis and the longest winter in 50 years. A total of 746 people, including 58 children, died in 7,500 fires in the first two months of 1996. This is 273 people more than in the same period of 1995. AP
