KIEV - Warning that Ukraine was 'on the verge of catastrophe', President Leonid Kuchma urged parliament yesterday to support market reforms.

The conservative parliament suspended Ukraine's privatisation programme in July after Mr Kuchma was elected on a platform of speeding up reform and forging closer ties with Russia. Mr Kuchma said they had 'no option' but reform. AP
