Geneva - Diphtheria, a disease thought until recently virtually to have been eradicated, killed 1,742 people in eastern Europe and central Asia last year, the United Nations reported in Geneva. It predicts that this year there will be 200,000 case of the disease, which is infectious and attacks the throat, making breathing difficult. Last year the WHO recorded 47,802 cases. AFP
