NAIROBI (Reuter) - A leading member of Kenya's squabbling opposition died yesterday, increasing the likelihood of a split before the country's first multi- party polls in 26 years.
Masinde Muliro, 72, interim vice-chairman of the main opposition Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (Ford) party, collapsed at Nairobi airport after returning from a private visit to Britain.
Diplomats said Mr Muliro's death had removed a crucial figure in attempts to heal deep rifts in Ford before a convention of Kenya's five registered opposition parties discusses creation of a united front to stand against President Daniel arap Moi.
