WASHINGTON (Reuter) - The United States and Russia yesterday signed an agreement under which Washington will provide up to dollars 25m ( pounds 13m) to Moscow to help destroy Russian chemical weapons. The money will help Moscow draw up a plan to destroy its chemical weapons, develop a detection and alarm system for safe transport and train Russian experts in the US.
The agreement implemented provisions of a wider deal reached on 17 June between Presidents George Bush and Boris Yeltsin to help Russia safely transport and destroy nuclear, chemical and other weapons.
