US Marine Harrier jets roared over Kismayu yesterday as Marines came ashore to keep warring Somali factions away from the disputed southern port, AP reports from Mogadishu. Flights, by warplanes and helicopters, are a prelude to today's sweep of the region by nearly 2,000 combat troops from the US-led coalition. About 1,300 Marines were landing and unloading supplies at a Belgian base in the port area, said Marine Chief Warrant Officer Eric Carlson.
