Moldova's newly elected parliament voted yesterday to join the Commonwealth of Independent States, the loose alliance that now includes all the former Soviet republics except the Baltic states, AP reports from Kishinev. MPs voted 80 to 18 to ratify Moldova's entry into the 12-nation commonwealth.
