Warsaw (AP) - President Lech Walesa emerged as a winner yesterday in a battle with parliament after the lower chamber failed to override his veto blocking relaxation of a strict anti-abortion law. Mr Walesa vetoed the bill, which allowed women to terminate pregnancy due to a financial or family hardship, saying it violated the right to life.
