Sweden's minority government, led by Carl Bildt, the Prime Minister, yesterday won what could be a milestone victory in its fight to save the economy when parliament approved plans to cut welfare payments, Reuter reports from Stockholm.
After a week of uncertainty that spread to financial markets, the centre-right coalition secured a 40- seat majority for its 6.2bn crown ( pounds 540m) welfare cuts.
