LISBON (Reuter) - Portugal's opposition Socialist Party (PS) celebrated a landslide victory over the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) in local elections but said it would not seek an early general election.
The Socialists achieved their highest ever vote in Sunday's poll, extended their control over Portugal's main cities and won more local councils than the PSD.
The PS leader, Antonio Guterres, said he would not press for early parliamentary elections.
