The Russian ultra-nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky, expelled from Bulgaria and barred from Germany this week, said he planned to visit France in February to meet conservative politicians, Reuter reports from Paris. Mr Zhirinovsky said he wanted to meet the Mayor of Paris and former prime minister, Jacques Chirac, who heads the Gaullist conservative RPR party; the centre-right leader and former president Valery Giscard d'Estaing; 'and other well-known politicians'.
