Young criminals reach record high

A record number of young delinquents have been placed under criminal supervision orders to local authorities, new figures from the Department of Health showed yesterday.

Around 4,700 under-18-year-olds were required report to probation officers or social workers under the good-behaviour rules in1995, a 35 per cent rise on the last 12 months.
