Zoo's listed buildings
Besides the grade two listed Mappin Terrace, there are eight other listed buildings at London Zoo, according to English Heritage.
The Penguin Pool, perhaps the most well-loved building in the zoo, is the only grade one listed building. Designed by Bertholdt Lubetkin, a Soviet emigre, and built in 1934, the pool, with its distinctive spiral staircase, is still in use today.
In total there are eight grade two listed buildings. The Raven's Aviary, designed by Decimus Burton, was built in 1827, the year the zoo opened. Next came the Clock Tower, built in1828. The Giraffe House, built in 1836, still serves its purpose today. The Mappin Terrace was built in 1913.
The other grade two listed buildings are: the East Tunnel, the North Entrance Gate, the Footbridge over Regent's Canal, and the Hippopotamus House.
