CHANNEL 4 is opening a new year of gardening with repeats of two programmes. From next Tuesday there is another chance to see Sophie Grigson in Grow Your Greens. From next Friday viewers can catch up on garden history with the expensively produced, though rather muddled, Nature Perfected.

The first programme establishes the major themes of the series, travelling through Mexico, France, Japan, the United States and Britain. The following week viewers are taken back to the beginning, with frescos of gardens in Pompeii and Hadrian's villa.
