Gardening: Cuttings: Pea super

THOMPSON & Morgan, the seed merchant, is introducing a main-crop pea this year. It is called 'Top Pod' ( pounds 1.99) and has good disease resistance, especially to powdery mildew, which is always a problem in dry summers. 'The pods are plump,' says David Batty, T & M's technical manager, 'and have nine or 10 peas, compared with the six or seven in 'Onward'.' The Royal Horticultural Society recommends the main-crops 'Cavalier' (Marshalls, pounds 1.29) and 'Hurst Green Shaft' (Dobies, 95p) in its list of plants with the Award of Garden Merit.
