A SYMPOSIUM organised by the Georgian Group, 'The picturesque in late Georgian England', will be held on 22 October (10am-5.30pm) at the Architectural Association, 34-36 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3ES. It celebrates the bicentenary of the publication of landscape gardener Uvedale Price's seminal Essay on the Picturesque. Eight lecturers will speak on: 18th-century tourists and their guidebooks; Decimus Burton; the role of the print in spreading the picturesque ideal; Beckford; Fonthill; woodlands in the 18th-century landscape; and other subjects.
