Gardening: Cuttings: Shoot to kill

'MANY gardeners need reassurance that a weedkiller is taking effect,' says the chemical giant Monsanto, explaining why it has changed the recipe for its herbicide, Roundup. The new formula has a rapid effect on foliage, withering it within a couple of days; but Roundup's chief advantage, its deep- seated effect - a slower attack on the roots of perennial weeds such as dandelion and dock, remains. It is available in a 750ml trigger spray ( pounds 3.95) or in a three-litre pack with its own detachable hose and sprayer ( pounds 11.95).
