IN Making the Best of Things (BBC 2, next Friday at 8.30pm), Geoff Hamilton meets a direct descendant of one of Charles Darwin's worms. He knows it must be a cousin, however distant, because worms are said never to stray far from their place of birth; they go up and down, but not sideways.

This is the fourth in an absorbing series called The Living Garden, which looks behind and beneath the plants in the garden to study how they grow and who their friends and enemies are.
