Gardening Update: Gardens open

BROADLANDS at Hazelbury Bryan, Dorset, is two acres of island beds set round a modern bungalow. The trees are particularly good: ptelea, a huge cercis, albizzia against the house wall, massive magnolias, halesia, sorbus. Everything is labelled, so you do not have to stalk the owners with questions. Open by appointment (0258 817374), admission pounds 1.20. Mrs Kingham's three-acre patch at Brook Lodge Farm Cottage, Blackbrook, near Dorking, Surrey, has a big kitchen garden, greenhouses, a herb garden and a selection of shrubs which are beginning to berry. Open tomorrow (2-6pm), admission pounds 1.50.
