Natural History Museum's Wildlife Garden opens for National Gardens Scheme

Gardens to visit this weekend include the Wildlife Garden at the Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7, which opens for the National Gardens Scheme today (12-5pm); admission by donation. Set up in 1995, the garden is made up of different habitats representing deciduous woodland, heathland, meadow and ponds.

More than 2,000 species of plant, bird and insect life are happily settled in this central London oasis, a demonstration of the important part that urban gardens have to play in conserving wildlife. Open both today and tomorrow (10am-3pm), admission £2.50, is the award-winning two-acre garden at Trinity Hospice, 30 Clapham Common North Side, London SE4.

The gardens play an important role in the life of the hospice, but the peace and tranquillity they offer are equally therapeutic for visitors. Restored, towards the end of his life, by the celebrated designer, Lanning Roper.
