Here are some of the biggest design events coming up within the next few weeks.

7th Grand Designs Live
April 30 - May 8
London, UK

This home exhibition combines practical with more cutting-edge design. The products on display here are more applicable to the mass market than the edgy designs at France's Maison & Objet for example. The event is smaller than Ambiente, attracting only 47,000 visitors in 2010 and is aimed squarely at those looking for designs that serve a functional role in an average household rather than those looking for unique or 'statement' pieces.

Icograda Design Week
May 9-13
Vilnius, Lithuania

Through the theme of Spring, Icograda Design Week strives to explore design as a powerful process that transitions ideas into functional realities. The annual event, staged at a different location each year, is an opportunity for designers, business leaders and stakeholders to meet, discuss and explore design as a basis for development.

Creative Week
NYC
May 9-15
New York, USA

Celebrating creativity in advertising, design, digital media, music, film and the fine arts, this series of events organized by non-profit The One Club has partnered with Facebook for the first time this year. Guests will have access to the developers of the social media site to learn about the company's latest tools, products and strategies. Other events include SHOOT Magazine's Director's Forum and New Director's Showcase, the NY Photo Festival, and events hosted by The Type Directors Club, The Art Directors Club, and the Society of Illustrators.

23rd International Contemporary Furniture Fair

May 14-17
New York, USA

Billed as a "global summit for design," the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, or ICFF, attracts exhibitors from 40 countries with 23,000 attendees. Designs in the field of furniture, seating, flooring, outdoor furniture and lighting and other categories are represented at the show. The ICFF represents a much broader spectrum of household design than the Australian International Furniture fair (February 2-4), but in turn is overshadowed by home design events such as Tendence (August 26-30).
